Social Science - Human Development

Dramatic transformations in the global political and environmental domains often accompany and inform equally pressing challenges in human social and economic relationships. In some instances, hardships such as disease, poverty, environmental degradation and armed conflict undermine human capital and welfare. Drawing on the Institute’s interdisciplinary approaches, the Human Development programme examines the economic, environmental, health and other factors affecting the well being of individuals and communities. Research undertaken in those areas seeks to enhance student learning in the Global Cultures and International Business learning circles, focusing particular attention on the role of private sector and civil society in promoting efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
