Environmental Science - Biodiversity

Changes in the health and diversity of plant and animal life often carry important implications for climate change on a global scale, and also for the food supply, the spread of disease, and other issues affecting human development.  Working with biologists and conservationists, the Institute’s Biodiversity programme provides researchers with a mobile platform for monitoring developments in species and habitat across the world.

Research Initiatives

In August 2007 the Institute linked up with the Mosquito Barcoding Initiative (MBI), to conduct a year-long survey in tropical and subtropical habitats around  the world. By identifying different species of mosquitoes and their associate geographical distribution, we hope to support malaria prevention programmes and help eradicate a disease that kills one million people every year.
