The contemporary world is shaped by a growing interconnectedness. This globalization takes many forms and is manifested in key global issues. To gain a broad-based understanding of how these issues shape the world today, this subject explores the following themes:

Learning Outcomes
The specific learning outcomes for this subject are to enhance students’ ability to:
- Analyze the interrelated nature of the challenges of the 21st century
- Analyze the differential impact of globalization on various strata of the local, regional, national and international communities
- Compare the roots and various manifestations of global conflict in the 21st century
Intercultural Communication
This subject enables students to understand communication issues within and between cultures and prepares them to communicate more effectively across cultures. Learning experiences include lectures, simulations, games, analysis, case studies, and onboard and onshore projects.

- Understand the theories, concepts and practices of intercultural communication

- Discover their own attitudes, beliefs, values and norms, and understand how these affect their sensitivity and responsiveness to others as they develop an intercultural perspective
- Develop respect and tolerance of cultural diversity in both national and international contexts
